itinerary

Day 01
Arrive at Belize City, transfer to hotel, evening free, overnight at Belize City.

Day 02
Tour Belize City, which today remains the commercial capital of the country. In addition to other historic buildings, you will see the Supreme Court buildings flanked by cannons used in the Battle of St. George's Caye in 1798.Then you'll be driven 40 minutes up the Western Highway to Belize's wonderful natural wildlife habitat, the Belize Zoo, which gives you the unique opportunity of viewing Belize's prolific wildlife in one location. In the afternoon, we will be driven to San Ignacio for overnight.

Day 03
We will depart to Xunantunich Maya site, we will cross the Mopan River on a hand cranked ferry and proceed up a steep incline to the site. The excavated temple, El Castillo, is one of the highest structures in all of Belize and boasts an awe-inspiring view, a reconstructed frieze, a number of stele, and a ball court, we will return San Ignacio in the afternoon for overnight.

Day 04
Today, we will have a full day tour of Caracol Ruins, Caracol is an exciting site, 9 miles square, blessed with a number of awe inspiring temples and numerous stele. Enshrouded by Macaw and Tapir-filled forests, it is set in the heart of the Mayan "empire", on our way back to San Ignacio, we will visit the Rio Frio Cave, it's 65-foot arched entry ways leave you in awe. Openings at both ends makes flashlights unnecessary for viewing the cave's formations during daylight hours, we will be back at our hotel late afternoon, overnight at San Ignacio.

Day 05
At 8:00 AM, depart for Flores, Guatemala, but first we we will visit the Barton Creek Cave.  Glide through a remote underground water cave system in a canoe equipped with powerful spotlights. It is believed that the Maya once used this cave for ritual ceremonies. While canoeing by a local guide through the cave see large and colorful formations, skeletal remains and other cultural artifacts left behind by the Maya centuries ago.  Barton Creek is a large river cave over 4 miles long. The cave consists of giant passages covered with numerous large stalactites and stalagmites. These cave features have made it a popular Belize travel destination.  Artifacts found at Barton Creek Cave suggest that the cave was used for a variety of purposes by the Maya people including agricultural rituals, fertility rites, ritual bloodletting, and even human sacrifice. Archaeological excavations are ongoing.  After exploring the cave, visit the nearby Green Hills Butterfly Ranch where you will experience Belize’s biggest and best butterfly exhibit. The knowledgeable staff will present an excellent synopsis of the butterfly life cycle, but the main attraction is the enclosed flight area where scores of gorgeous tropical butterflies flutter around you; later we should depart to Flores in, Guatemalan territory for overnight.

Day 06
After breakfast, we will drive to Tikal and have a the guided visit to the main site. Tikal in its heyday 700 AD, was the capital of a vast Mayan empire. Today, the site is one of Guatemala's premier tourist attractions. Its unspoiled jungle setting makes it special for discerning travelers, particularly Archaeologists, Naturalists and bird watchers. Mid-afternoon we will head back to Flores, then, transfer to the airport to catch your flight to Guatemala City, departing at 8:00 PM arriving at 9:00 PM, upon arrival, transfer to your hotel, evening free, overnight at Guatemala City.

Day 07
In the morning we will have a brief city tour of Guatemala including the historic district and the center of government, in the afternoon, we will drive to Antigua Guatemala, the city founded in the early 16th century. Built 1,500 meters above sea-level, in an earthquake-prone region, it was largely destroyed by an earthquake in 1773, but its principal monuments are still preserved as ruins. Evening free, overnight at Antigua.

Day 08
In the morning, we will explore the timeless colonial city of Antigua Guatemala, nestled in a valley surrounded by the peaks of three towering volcanoes. Over time it became the most important city in Central America, adorned with monasteries, churches and other monuments built in the Spanish Colonial architectural style. While in Antigua you will explore both the restored colonial buildings as well as those left as ruins throughout the city. Among the intricate colonial buildings and interesting museums you will visit on our tour, you will explore the ornate La Merced church, the ruins of the Capuchinas convent and the San Francisco Cathedral, In the afternoon, you will be transferred to Panajachel for overnight.

Day 09
Today, we will have a boat tour on Lake Atitlan and visit the communities along the shore like Santiago de Atitlan, were we will find a Quiche Indian population that descend from the Mayas and walk around this colonial villages, we will also visit Santa Cruz La Laguna and San Antonio ( By private small boat) around 5:00 PM, we will be transferred to Guatemala City for overnight.

Day 10
At the appropriate time, transfer to the Guatemala City´s airport to catch your international departure flight.
